Dr. Jannise (Dr. Jan) Michelle Newby is a multi-gifted teacher, author, speaker, and phenomenal businesswomen. As a trauma informed specialist Dr. Newby provides evidence-based general and preventive mental health services, treatment for survivors of homicide victims, trauma and domestic violence victims; diagnose Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Dr. Newby is a principle research facilitator for the University of Michigan recent COVID-19 Mindfulness Project Team. She has been a trainer for the Detroit Wayne County Sheriff Dept., and Detroit Police Department. Further, Dr. Newby is also a conflict and mediation facilitator, trainer and advocate, and has worked with Detroit Public School students and intervention specialist and consultant for Southfield Public Alternative High School. She has had the opportunity to be a guest instructor for higher education, in human resource management and mental health, and social services. She conducts research and facilitates training in wellness, stress management, career development, vocational counseling, addictions, military families, and diverse populations. Dr. Newby ambitiously began her first business venture as an entrepreneur at the early age of 16 as a private piano instructor. She went on to open two mortgage companies in West/East Detroit, Michigan to assist low-income families. Dr. Newby has embraced her assignment to pursue empowering others through successfully encouraging them to enhance and cultivate their God-given natural talents and abilities. She conducts workshops, develops programs, and evaluates professional development implementation in the workplace for organizations. She has provided consultation for both small and large companies, conducted rallies promoting green job initiatives, acting as a community activist for both men and women displaced workers, disenfranchised communities and organizations. Dr. Newby established Appleseed Professional Development, LLC to be a personal and professional development consulting firm specializing in career development, and work-life balance training, research and individual life development. Currently she is Chief Executive Officer of Balance Life, Mind & Well-Being, LLC a full range psychotherapy company working with individuals, marriage & family, couples, and groups. She specializes in Individual Psychology with a focus on the use of Stress Inoculation Therapy ‘talk therapy’, treatment modality used to treat clients dealing with anger management, substance abuse issues, grief & loss, career counseling, depression, and anxiety. Dr. Newby obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Community Development with a concentrated study in Public Administration / Health Science, graduate studies in Leadership and obtained a Master’s degree in Professional License Counseling, and a Doctorate of Educational Leadership for Change. Dr. Newby has affiliation with the American Counseling Association, Psychology Today, Counseling Today, and National Career Development Association, she is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Supervisor, and Chief Psychotherapist with The Anger Doctor / Balance Life Mind & Well-Being.
