Nedra Johnson

Nedra is currently a Principal Engineer with General Dynamics Land Systems, a position she has had for the last four years. In her position, she has served in roles as Software Area Manager, Software Department Engineering Manager and as an Agile Champion for US Operations Engineering. Before her time at General Dynamics, Nedra worked for 25 years at General Motors, serving in various areas of engineering product development. Some of these areas include design release engineering, validation, global technical heating ventilation and air conditioning controls lead, and systems feature owner for occupant positioning.

Nedra was born and raised in the city of Detroit, and attended Detroit Public Schools, where she excelled in math and science. Nedra attended Cass Technical High School, where she studied the electronics curriculum. It was during this time that her interest in engineering was ignited. She was further prepared for the STEM field by her participation in the Explorers and Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering (DAPCEP) programs.

Nedra attended and graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Further, she earned a Master of Science in Engineering Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Nedra is the recipient of various awards throughout her professional career. She was the 2021 recipient of the Spectrum Trailblazer Black Engineer of the Year Award. Nedra currently holds one patent for the Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module. 

Her professional organizational memberships include the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA).
